How to Renew Your IP Address on Windows
Using the Command Prompt
One way to release and renew your IP address is to use the Command Prompt. Here's how:
- Click on Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, click on Network Connections.
- Right-click on the network connection you want to renew the IP address for and select Status.
- In the status window, click on the Details button.
- In the Details window, find the IPv4 Address field and make note of the IP address.
- Open a Command Prompt window by clicking on Start, then typing "cmd" in the search bar and pressing Enter.
- In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
ipconfig /release
This command will release your current IP address.
- Next, type the following command and press Enter:
ipconfig /renew
This command will renew your IP address.
- Verify that your IP address has changed by opening the Details window for your network connection again.
Using the Windows GUI
You can also renew your IP address using the Windows GUI. Here's how:
- Click on Start, then Settings, and then Network & Internet.
- In the Network & Internet settings window, click on Change adapter options.
- Right-click on the network connection you want to renew the IP address for and select Properties.
- In the Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) protocol and click on the Properties button.
- In the IPv4 Properties window, select the Obtain an IP address automatically option and click on the OK button.
- Click on the OK button again to close the Properties window.
- Verify that your IP address has changed by opening the Details window for your network connection again.
