The United States men's basketball team extended its perfect record in its pre-Olympic exhibition tour with a hard-fought 101-100 victory over South Sudan on Saturday. The game was a tale of two halves, with South Sudan leading by 16 points at one point in the second quarter.
LeBron James Comes to the Rescue
But Team USA rallied behind LeBron James, who scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter. James' three-pointer with 2:22 remaining gave the US a 97-96 lead, and he added two free throws with 1:08 left to seal the victory.
South Sudan Impresses
Despite the loss, South Sudan impressed with its performance. The team, which is the youngest nation to ever compete in international basketball, shot over 57% from the field and hit 6-of-13 three-pointers. Nuni Omot led the way with 25 points, while Kuany Kuany added 21.
Team USA's Continued Dominance
The win keeps Team USA perfect in its exhibition tour, which has included victories over Nigeria, Argentina, and Spain. The team is now preparing for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where it will look to defend its gold medal from Tokyo.
