Wanted: 'Cryptoqueen' Ruja Ignatova, mastermind behind $45 billion OneCoin scam, faces global asset freeze
OneCoin CEO Ruja Ignatova, also known as the 'Cryptoqueen,' has been placed on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list for her role in orchestrating a massive cryptocurrency scam.
Known as the "Cryptoqueen," Ruja Ignatova allegedly orchestrated a 45 billion cryptocurrency scam called OneCoin. She has been indicted by the FBI and is now on their "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list.
The FBI has charged Ignatova with wire fraud, money laundering, and securities fraud, and issued a global asset freeze on her known assets. It is believed that Ignatova, who was last seen in 2017, may be living in Germany or Austria.
The OneCoin scam involved the promotion of a cryptocurrency that was claimed to be backed by real assets. However, it is alleged that the cryptocurrency was actually worthless, and that investors were swindled out of billions of dollars.
