Jay Shah Elected President of Asian Cricket Council

Shah's Term Extended Unanimously

Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been elected president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). He was unanimously elected at the ACC's annual general meeting on Saturday. Shah's term as president will be for two years.

Shah's Successful Leadership

Shah's election to the presidency of the ACC is a testament to his successful leadership of the BCCI. Under his leadership, the BCCI has successfully hosted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. He has also been instrumental in the development of cricket in India, including the launch of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the establishment of the National Cricket Academy.

Prize Money for Team India

On Sunday, Shah announced a whopping prize money of Rs 125 crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This is the highest prize money ever awarded to a cricket team for winning a major tournament.

Criticism of IPL Rule

Shah was the first high-profile Indian player to criticise the rule which came into the IPL in 2023 after being trialled in the domestic Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

The rule states that a team must field a minimum of five players from its own country in its playing XI. Shah argued that this rule would discriminate against foreign players and would damage the quality of the IPL.
