Pune Civic Body Undertaking Measures to Control Zika Virus Outbreak

Six Infected, Including Two Pregnant Women

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is implementing various measures to prevent the spread of the Zika virus, following the recent detection of six infected individuals, including two pregnant women. The city has recorded its first case of a pregnant woman contracting the virus, marking the fifth overall infection since the outbreak.

Health Officials on Alert

According to PMC health officials, the first case of Zika virus infection in the city was reported from the Erandwane area, where a 46-year-old doctor tested positive. Subsequently, his teenage daughter also tested positive, but both are reportedly in stable health. The PMC has initiated active surveillance, fogging, and insecticide spraying in the affected areas to control mosquito breeding.

As the city remains on high alert, residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites by covering their bodies, using insect repellent, and eliminating stagnant water sources. The PMC has also advised citizens to seek medical attention immediately if they experience fever, rash, and joint pain, which are common symptoms of Zika virus infection.
